Storming the Capitol

Yesterday’s storm on Capitol Hill was a life shattering example of how words and actions from leaders matter. Leaders can inspire hope and positivity or, in this case, conspire to disrupt everything we, as a nation, believe in. But disruption, lawlessness, thuggery, and any threats to our institutions are not strong enough to deny our faith in our constitution. Across every political spectrum, we are finding our might to stand in unity and reinforce our basic values. We shall prevail in spite of the optics. Our principles and ideologies of peace and righteousness will win in the end.

Our Congress nor our people should ever have to hide or feel unsafe.

The criminal violence we witnessed, exposes the realities of our continued struggle against deep-rooted and profound wickedness. Even as we continue to co-exist with the common enemy of COVID-19, the ugly head of poverty, racial supremacy and political chaos are still here. The mental explosion and trauma caused by this pandemic and now this insurrection, creates greater uncertainly for many communities across the nation.

Future generations will read our history. Will this moment prove us to be a nation who’s policy makers, business leaders, government institutions, and nonprofit industries took a stand against the ills of society or will we be the antithesis of failure and disgrace?

The act of courage during the Civil Rights Movement to change a nation prevailed during a difficult civil rights movement. Once again, we are in position to be a voice of hope, and provide services to those who need us most. We are here to provide systematic and community development change to help our neighbors. Food insecurity, high unemployment, homelessness, and a failing medical system are the brute forces of an enemy we need to fight. This is a time of our greatest strength and real leadership for a common good.

We cannot allow anyone to rob us of our morality even when we disagree with the outcome. As former First Lady Michelle Obama stated, when they go low, we still have to stay high, because our nation demands excellence at all levels.
